Built the slow way, on purpose.
Hollowoak began in 2014 with two benches, a secondhand lathe, and a stubborn belief: furniture should be made from real timber, joined honestly, and finished to be repaired — not replaced. Twelve years later the workshop is bigger. The belief is unchanged.
The process
Four steps. Zero shortcuts.
01
Slow timber
Slow-grown oak, ash, and walnut from managed forests. Dense boards that machine cleanly and joint tightly.
02
Honest joinery
Mortise and tenon, dovetails, wedged through-tenons. No visible screws, no staples, nothing to work loose.
03
Hand-rubbed finish
Eight coats of hard-wax oil over a week, rubbed between each. Matte, warm, and repairable forever.
04
Kept for decades
A ten-year guarantee, free repairs for two, and at-cost repairs for life. We build for the second owner too.
Materials
Wood first. Everything else earns its place.
Upholstery is full-grain leather, stonewashed linen, and nubby bouclé — natural fibres that age alongside the timber. Foams are dense and replaceable; covers come off and wash. When a cushion finally gives out in fifteen years, you replace the cushion, not the chair.
Stone, wool, and canvas join the palette outdoors, where teak and basalt silver gracefully instead of failing suddenly.
The studio
Twenty-eight artisans, one bench standard.
Every Hollowoak piece passes through the hands of joiners, upholsterers, and finishers who sign their work — literally. Open any drawer or flip any cushion and you will find the maker's mark and the year.
We keep the studio small on purpose. 8,290 pieces now live in homes, and we can still tell you who made each one.
Visit
Come sit in everything.
The showroom sits above the workshop — you will hear your chair being made. Open Thursday to Sunday, or write ahead for a quiet weekday hour.
